The Threat of Puppy Mills
Jeffrey Douglas Kaliel is an award-winning attorney specializing in class-action litigation and a former Staff Sergeant in the US Army. Often representing plaintiffs against financial services companies, Jeffrey Douglas Kaliel also seeks out cases that broadly serve the public interest and has worked with several nonprofits, including the Humane Society of the United States.
One of the key goals of the Humane Society is to stop the cruel treatment of animals in puppy mills. Puppy mills are breeding facilities that focus on high-volume output while investing minimally in the care and treatment of their animals.
Animals in these facilities are often confined and kept in poor conditions with very little shelter. Some suffer from malnutrition and receive minimal veterinary care. An estimated 90 percent of animals in pet stores come from this type of breeding facility with retailers choosing to trust the animal breeders about the animal’s safety.
The Humane Society encourages people to consider adoption rather than purchase and always visiting a breeder’s premises before buying a puppy.
